Our latest zig zag hand-beaded earrings are handmade with Japanese Miyuki glass beads and created entirely by the hands of our women beadworkers in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. They are our latest signature design. Inspired by Italian fashion house Missoni, to add zag to your zig or zig to your zag.
Our latest colour ways present in an array of olive green with luscious matt black; vivid emeralds, metallic silver and rust; sunshine yellow and grey; King Midas gold, bronze, black and white or decadent gold with metallic rose and silky grey. We are also open to your custom colour requests!
Sterling silver earring hooks complete these light-weight works of art.
Ruby has been avidly following Missoni for many years and their incredible zig zag knits have woven the fabric of our imagination right here at the tip of the African continent. The symmetry inherent in intricate Xhosa beadwork techniques is a natural companion for a zig zag pattern.
Our wild flower foraging escapades have also provided inspiration for our latest designs. Colour ways and patterns that emerge in the microcosm of the natural world never cease to amaze and inspire. Our muse below is the feathery coral inside of a pin-cushion protea that's indigenous to the Western Cape.
Pattern, symmetry and delicious colour combinations work their delicate magic to create a unique earring that has it's roots in ethical fashion and it's wings in the infinite creativity of Mother Nature's wonderland.
We've been using pin stitch to weave these tiny masterpieces. What we at Ruby love most about beadwork is the union it brings. A tiny bead alone is without purpose but many beads woven together in a community using a single yarn, weave a pattern so bright and awesome. Like the ethos of the fashion revolution movement; with fashion being the yarn that unifies consumers and producers together by a conscious thread of looking good and doing good.
The Ruby Beading Circle brings work and livelihoods to the people that need it most. Every single earring sold via Ruby provides support to breadwinners in the informal settlements of Cape Town. We hope you'll join us in our efforts to alleviate poverty, foster social justice, enhance fair trade and bring wealth to disadvantaged communities.
What's more is you'll own a unique piece of authentic South African beadwork that's inspired by global design trends and is made using the highest quality ingredients available. This is so much more than a fashion item; it's an heirloom to cherish. Made with love.
